May Topic: Writing Across Time: Unfinished Conversations and Shifting Identity
Cost: $65 per session with bundle discount
Format: Held via Zoom
Explore how writing can bridge the space between what was left unsaid and what has been forever changed. This session focuses on two core writing practices: timeline and narrative writing to help clients reconstruct identity before and after the loss, and letter-writing as a tool to address unfinished emotional business.
Themes to Explore:
Timeline exercises that reflect:
"Who I was before this loss" vs. "Who I am now"
Identity shifts and values that have emerged through grief
What parts of the relationship or self feel frozen in time
Using letter-writing to the deceased, estranged, or symbolically lost to express:
Regrets
Unspoken appreciations
Anger or unmet needs
Longings or future imaginings
How narrative writing supports integration of loss without requiring “acceptance”
Helping clients tolerate the emotional complexity of dual realities: love and resentment, sorrow and relief, presence and absence
Next Topics
Month 2 - June 27th: Writing the Relationship — Before, During, After
We’ll use timelines and reflective writing to trace the arc of a relationship—not just the loss. This session invites you to consider how identity, attachment, and shared meaning evolve before, during, and after a death.
Month 3: - July 25th: Unfinished Conversations
Many grieving clients carry unspoken words—regret, love, anger, apology. This session explores how writing letters, dialogues, or imagined exchanges can help clients express the unsaid and renegotiate the bond.
Month 4 - August 22nd: The Unspeakable and the Unwritable
Some griefs defy language—those that are disenfranchised, stigmatized, or ambiguous. Here, we’ll experiment with metaphor, symbol, and visual language to give form to the “unsayable.”
Month 5 - September 26th: Grief in the Therapist’s Chair
How do our personal losses shape the way we show up as clinicians? This month we reflect on moments when clients’ stories have stirred, mirrored, or transformed our own grief experience.
Month 6 - October 24th: Rituals, Meaning, and Integration
As the series comes to a close, we’ll explore how writing can become part of ritual and meaning-making. You’ll be invited to reflect on what you want to carry forward—and what can be laid to rest.
Purchase by monthly session here.
